The Millom Swimming Pool Partnership was formed in 2004 to campaign for a new community swimming pool. There is tremendous local support for a new 25m x 4 lane swimming pool to replace the existing, but aging, facility situated on Millom School grounds.
In 2005, Millom was successful in its application for funding through the NWDA Market Towns Initiative programme. The Swimming Pool Feasibility Study was identified as a key project in the 2005/6 Performance Plan and was duly commissioned. This was a much more thorough piece of work than previous attempts to drive the project forward.
A feasibility study was completed in March 2006 and recommends the development of a new build 25 metre pool on the site of the existing school pool, and outlines a business model for its long term sustainability. This proposes a strong linkage to the development of Millom Network Centre and the synthetic sports all weather pitch that opened in July of 2007.
We need the support of our community. It is frequently in the news that towns lose their pools for a variety of reasons. We have the ability to attract the attention we need to keep ours open, and we think it is a worthwhile cause. However, we cannot do it without your support.
