Adult Learners’ Week 15-21 May 2010
For Adult Learner’s Week 15th to 21st May 2010, Millom Network Centre held various ‘Drop In’ and ‘Try It’ sessions throughout the week as well as an Information Day on all courses running and courses coming up.
Some visitors had a go at Silversmithing, others at Tai Chi. Some joined the First Steps Course: “Kick Starting Creativity”, others relaxed with Holistic Therapies. Many joined in the health and fitness sessions which included a “Fitness Fun and Find Out More” session where people had a go at different types of exercise. Others worked out during the “Gentle Circuits for Healthy Hearts” class.
There was also an opportunity to find out more about their fitness levels by having a fitness assessment during “MOTs for bodies”. Some Learners who had a go at the exercise routines during “Bums Tums and Thighs” have now joined the regular class to continue with their exercise.
MNC also held a Fire Wardens’ Course and also provided some free places to the unemployed and to community partners during Adult Learners’ Week.
An information day was included on the 20th May. Stall holders included: JHP Training, Ways to Successful Enterprise, The Children’s Centre, Millom Community Church and Millom Adult Education.
Millom Network Centre’s Learning Development Team were on hand to provide free One to One learning support and one of the Adult Education Tutors was in attendance to encourage participation with the ‘Quick Reads’ programme.
The Information Day also included displays of work from learners on: the Silversmithing course, Rag Rug Hooking and Creative Writing. Our Learning Development Team was also on hand to talk to people about our free Drop in Support Workshops. Winners of the prize draw will be announced shortly.
MNC was keen to raise awareness during the week of all that is on offer and also to ask customers for their feedback on what they want to see provided in the future.
MNC staff and volunteers also attended several Adult Learners’ Week Training events which reflects our commitment to listening to the ‘Learners’ Voice’ and to continuous service improvement. Customers can look forward to a diverse programme where activities are provided in a safe and friendly environment.
Our sincere thanks go to all those who took part in the events during the week and during their preparations.
